2009 was a busy year for me! I joined an Improv troupe, got an agent, recorded my v.o. demo and two internet commercials. I also filmed my first television commercial! I am currently enrolled in Esthetician school and taking a botox class next weekend. I hope to compliment my nursing career with the Esthetics field.

So, that left sewing on the back burner with the exception of Halloween costumes. I really miss time fondling fabrics, dreaming up sewing projects and keeping up with all the inspiring blogs I read.

I did find an hour to get into the sewing room and make this little purse organizer. I want to make a petite one now for my smaller purses. I hope it does not take me months to get into the sewing habit again!

This was too easy. I found these sparkly letters at Hobby Lobby in the felt and pom pom aisle. I ironed them very carefully onto some black velvet. To make an easy pillow use the plastic bag the pillow form came in as your pattern. Boo!

Sewing Mojo?

Man oh man...where did my sewing mojo go? in the spring I made a ton of costumes for the local theatre then nothing. Nothing inspired me. I spent the past week purging my studio of fabric, junk and trash. Everything is ship shape. I felt rusty so I made a simple pj from the softest fabric ever from Denver Fabric. No pattern necessary for something so basic. Now...what kept me up last night?

I purchased some fabric crayons at the Sewing Festival a few weeks ago, drew my sisters face and then this collage evolved. I've had a lot of fun making this, using all my machines including the embellisher. Sue played Cinderella in a musical years ago and she is well known for her performance. If you look closely Cinderella and the fairy godmother are in the collage. I have NO idea how to finish this now...I've never made a binding! Help suggestions?

Using your Word program

This green pillow in Lauren's room was rather dull so I used my handy dandy seam ripper to take it apart. I used Microsoft word to find a cute font and printed out the letter. The fonts drop down menu will go 72 I believe, but if you type in for example 300 or 500 it will re size the letter. I used a blanket stitch and walla...a jazzy pillow for Lauren's bed.

Serged Satchel

The pattern is by Indigo Junction and is called the serged satchel. I found the directions to be Horrible with a capital H! I took me about 18+ hours to sew/serge and cost me approx $60.00. I doubt I'll make this again but it did turn out cute. Lauren thinks it is fantastic!

Vogue Easy

Yma was naked in the closet so I made her this shirt today. It's a black and white knit from Denver Fabrics. I'll have to wear a cami underneath it because the neckline was a bit low. If you are wondering who Yma is...she's my dress form and my name spelled backwards.

This is my first lined coat. phew! The fabric is a gorgeous lavender/beige/white wool boucle that I purchased on clearance from Denver Fabrics for $20.00. Butterick 5145 view A is the pattern I chose. I'll post this on pattern review too.

I sewed the buttons on with my machine which was another first but I think I'd rather sew them next time by hand because they were not tight enough.

I used my new Baby Lock Embellisher with scraps of the wool to make my matching scarf.

Black is my favorite color to wear so it was fun making something other than black.

Blind as a Bat

My costume was inspired by my serger. I was cussing because I could not thread the needle one afternoon. I said to myself out loud "I'm as blind as a bat"... "THAT'S IT" that's what I'll be for Halloween. I made the hood from a McCalls costume pattern, wore a t-shirt and black slacks. The wings are made from cardboard and black cotton fabric. I covered the wings with a black and purple sparkly sheer fabric. More glitter was added by using hairspray and a glitter shaker. The feathers were a "damaged" item at the fabric store that cost $1.00. I used plenty of hot glue, black duct tape and elastic and walla! The glasses were in a bargain bin for $1.00. Super glue made the nails stick to the gloves ($3.00) and the cane was a dowel covered with white athletic tape and had a red fabric tip. P.S. Steve and I sat on the porch and my wings nearly caught fire when I bent over to pick up something off the table! yikes! glad that did not happen. P.S. Steve has a broken leg and I hate having my picture taken that's why I look like a goof ball.

Dogs are funny! mine hate costumes. I made Josie the baby bib and bonnet. The bonnet stayed on for about 2 minutes. No matter how many times I brush her she always looks disheveled.

Garden Gnome

Lauren wanted to be a garden gnome...this costume was too easy! a lot of the people in the neighborhood thought she was Santa though! I think they looked at her hat and beard and not at the rest of the garb.

Hi friends! I've been lazy and have not blogged much, but I have been reading your blogs! After my big purchase I had a few weeks of buyers remorse and felt guilty. That feeling lasted way too long, but let me assure you all I've been using my new machines. I had so much fun this Halloween. After decorating the yard and porch I sat in my rocking chair, drank beer with Steve and passed out candy. I tried to enter my photos in the costume contest at Pattern Review but had nothing but trouble loading last night, it did however work this morning. Oh well! Enjoy my photos!

Well, the Nancy Zeiman Sewing retreat was a knee slappin' good time. I learned some new techniques and of course came home inspired. I purchased the Baby Lock Evolve Serger.....oh my! this is amazing and an Embellishing Machine. I thought the embellisher was a frivolous item until I took a class and daydreamed about a gazillion things I could use it for. I think the machine is definitely for those who have the desire to be extremely creative. I noticed that the ladies that really like to embroider did not fancy this machine. Now I need to get my tail end into the studio and whip up something to show you all! eee gads! I look like a big fatso in this photo! we were both looking at different cameras!

Seminar with Nancy Zeiman

I was fortunate to get a spot in the Baby Lock hands on 3 day seminar with Nancy Zeiman this October. I'm so glad I put my name on the waiting list. I did try out the Evolve Serger/Coverlock but had sticker shock when told the price. I called the dealer back to haggle and was told there will some great deals at the seminar. I'm saving up ladies!

P.S. Do any of you get neck pain from sewing?

After listening to Obama, Clinton, & Palin I could not take another evening of yappers.
So, sew...I made these lounge pants, scrunchie and vest for Miss Priss while the most recent gomer was blabbering. No patterns used this time. Just easy breezy mindless stuff because I am exhausted. The vest looks wonky in the photo but it is straight. Hey, I just noticed the symbols are upside town on the pants...oh well...these are for around the house. I really am tired.

Anyone gearing up for Halloween yet?

For those of you who emailed me and asked...my wallet is long gone, I think I had it on my lap when I got out of the car. A man came to my door 3 days later with my ID that was found blowing in the wind clear across town. Luckily nobody used my credit cards.

Here is my Paul on the first day of school. He has some stylin' sunglasses on that he bought in Korea. Paul went to World Youth Day in Australia in July. I wish I may, I wish I might...have my wish come true tonight!

Well, I went to the store to see a demo of the Baby Lock Evolve Wave yesterday. Then guess what happened? I looked in my purse and my wallet had gone missing. I searched for 8 hours straight yesterday, digging through the house, cupboards even the refrigerator (one never knows) even the stinky rubbish. I slept about 1 hour last night then woke up to my puppy's mess in the kitchen. I've also been having a pinching chest pain that is frightening me.

So here's the funny part...the salesgirl phoned me and I told her I'd lost my wallet and had been searching for 5 hours (at that point) and she asks me if I was thinking about the machine! well the machine was the furthest thing from my mind! I informed her that life stops until I find my wallet. Sales sales sales! I do have my heart set on this jet air threading serger/coverlock baby. The price is scary! $2599.99

Guess that's a no for now since I have no wallet. I wonder if a little house gnome is hiding it knowing that it is not the time for a large purchase.

This past weekend was my 25th class reunion. The best part was laughing at all the crazy things we did years ago. There were some bittersweet memories of deaths, acute and chronic illness, divorces and some folks with fame and fortune. I lead a rather dull life but I am happy most of the time and am thankful I have not had any tragic circumstances to endure. Here is a photo of me and Derek from the class of 1983 senior favorites...Best Dressed! we were irritated because the photo was taken on a day we were dressed down because of nasty cold weather. We stood outside in the sub zero temperature trying to look happy. Here we are again 25 years later on a warm July evening drinking beer!

Maternity? PJ's? no..it's a peasant top

I forced myself to use some stash fabric and I had just enough to make this peasant top. It is identical to a pj top I made for Lauren last Christmas. It fits nice and looks cute on and luckily looks like a peasant top. The fabric is a very stretchy knit with iridescent glitter and blue and aqua stripes. Not bad for a stash fabric.

Usually absolute quiet or General Hospital is on tv. If my soap is on I use this time to cut patterns out, pinning or Seam Ripping!

I made this window covering for the sewing room but I'm not quite sure I like how it looks. I think I need to add some fabric to the topper for more fullness. Of course, the ugly window well does not help.

My vegetable garden began after being robbed by the grocery store and charged over $2.00 for a tomato! The hike in grocery prices is stealing from my fabric budget. Are you cutting back or growing any food? If I did not have a family to feed I'd live on beans. I'm very much a novice at vegetables, I am frightened by the big gnarly green tomato bugs. yuk. Yes I have been sewing...costumes for Miss Priss's voice recital. I had about 2 weeks notice....for one costume...then suddenly one for each song! I felt sorry for the mamas that do not sew. Thank goodness for cute store bought tanks tops and fabric paint. My favorite was her pirate costume...which she did not have time to lace and threw on a hot pink tank which was not part of the ensemble. I did not get any close up shots of her in her costumes. I will have to get her to model for me. Here are a few snapshots.

I need to catch up on blogging and notes to you all. I have still not mailed the gifts I promised some of you...but they are ready to go...I'm just forgetful.

Well, Mama is tired, tired, tired. I do have to say I am amazed with the talent in the Youth Theatre. Every child that is cast is perfect for their role. Each show gets better and better. We still have 4 more shows. Today "critics" were at the show from New York and more will be at the Friday evening performance. Our theatre is nationally recognized! The director, costumer and music director are phenomenal...I actually enjoy their version better than the original Broadway show. I have been ushering, doing hair and makeup or watching. No sewing... boo hoo. I am also working and dealing with the new puppy. I can fall asleep standing up these days.

I used a New Look pattern for Lauren's tote gag that I morphed into my own design partially by accident and partially by intent. I made patchwork designs and a vintage photo of Little Red along with some cute trim I've been hanging onto for 10 years. Out came that sample of wolf fur...and presto she has a tote bag fit for Little Red. This bag is lined, has three pockets and a magnet closure. I'm such a nice mom.

Riley is on the mend. His tumor was benign thank goodness. He has a new baby sister Josie. Puppies are a lot of work! I'm basically hostage to the kitchen right now because it is the only room in the house without carpet. I did set up a crate in my studio but have not had much energy.

Happy St. Patrick's Day...one day late. Yesterday was a bit cold and snowy and we didn't want to wear our fancy dresses so I dug out the Leprechaun costumes from several years ago. Laurens was a size 6-7. So, I thought to myself..."I'll just whip up another one for her" well, guess who came along to sew with me? Murphy from Murphy's Law! Murphy messed with my serger and it was behaving badly. What should have taken 2 hours took 5 hours! Steve brought me food and drinks because I was holed in my studio all day. In the end we did have a lot of fun and laughs and met some wonderful folks on our dancing journey throughout downtown.

I have several friends that are pregnant right now and I wanted to make them something cute and functional. I made these burp cloths and plan to make some matching blankets. I think I spent approx $100.00 on all my supplies but I will be able to make gifts for about 8 people or more. By the way...this is not a new design...it's been around.

Today is Special

Steve and I met 19 years ago today. The memory is so fresh in my mind and heart it is like yesterday. I heard his voice first and thought is was wonderful....we were in a room together for 8 hours one Saturday afternoon. I had minimal make-up, recycled hair and blue paint on my face. I'd been out the evening before and was in no mood the next morning for glamorous looks. I was a victim in a paramedic practical and Steve was evaluating the Firefighters on their assessment skills. As it turns out we grew up in towns next to each other and attended rival high schools and graduated the same year! The morning we met Steve's Feisty Irish Grandmother had died...we believe that she was part of the arrangement. Thank You Grandma Ann!

Remember the purple and brown skirt nightmare? I spent so much time on that little devil and the results were just "ok". I made this skirt for Lauren last Wednesday when she was home from school feeling run down. No pattern was used, I measured her hips and pleated the fabric. This fabric was a gorgeous sea foam green with silver glitter that was in my "too pretty to cut" fabric. (anyone have that fear of cutting a gorgeous fabric?) This was so darn easy!

Today is crazy hair day at school. I talked Lauren out of a spray-on color and into a purple wig. I had just finished making the brown pink and lavender skirt so the ensemble looked adorable. Now this was from Butterick 4593 that I threw in the garbage because the pattern and I were not agreeing with each other. The skirt was enormous and the the pleats were ugly. I took it apart mostly because of the cute fabric and reinvented it my way. I added a hot pink lining with lavender and gold tulle to peek out of the lower edge.

Into The Woods

Miss Priss Lauren landed the role of Little Red Riding Hood in a local youth theatre production of Into The Woods. I start my voice over lessons tonight and am taking an Improv class this weekend. All I needed was another hobby but I figured since Lauren wants to be in show-biz I'll train as well! I talked to the costume director last night and it sounds like she has all her costumes and will only need some assistance with embellishing altering etc. Dang! I wanted to make a red cape. I might make one anyway just for her to wear to church etc.

I found this adorable shower curtain for only $4.00! My son Paul loves penguins so I updated his bathroom. I made the topper for the shower curtain and glued the google eyes to the fabric. He thinks it is cute. He does not know yet that I glued some eyes to the back side that will be watching him tomorrow morning.

Brown must be in with me right now because this is 3rd brown item I've sewn this month. I found this stretchy wool blend tweed (heck I don't know what to call it)at Denver Fabrics in the bargain bin. I used a heaver weight interfacing that I had on hand instead of getting up and driving to the fabric store for a lighter one.(therefore the front is a bit stiff) And, as I am posting this I realized I omitted the darn shoulder pads. While trying this on I thought to myself "this might look better with shoulder pads...hmmm. Well, imagine that! I did enjoy making this and added my favorite pin that Steve bought for me in Kilkenney Ireland. I'm thinking that my brown and white turtleneck sleeveless number I made might look cute under this...except...wool right next to my skin? maybe not.

On Stage Again

Well Miss Priss was at it again...on stage. This time she played Tuesday in the Missoula Children Theatre's production of Robin Crusoe. This little play was put together in only one week. She had a lot of fun. This weekend she will be filming an advertisement video for Young Voices. I have to make a dress that Little Orphan Annie would wear...I guess I'd better get off the computer and start planning this!

Riding as a front seat passenger in my car monitoring my 15 year old with his driver's permit has made me increasingly more anxious as the days go by. I thought this was going to be a fun experience as I have many fond memories of my older brother Malcolm taking me out in an old Volkswagon Van with curtains...and no first gear. We had many laughs together as I popped the clutch and grinded my start in 2nd gear. I used to wear a brown tweed hat and put my hair back so no one would recognize me in this vehicle. Looking back I laugh! My dad used to let me drive my sister VW Bug down the driveway when I was 12. Wow, it is more difficult to drive now a days! there are so many distractions and big SUV's to avoid and road rage. One evening I had my son drive me to the liquor store because I needed something to numb the anxiety! I found a new "Habit" and that is crocheting in the car. This keeps my mind and hands busy. My sister taught me to crochet a chain and a few stitches when I was 7. I can't follow a pattern because I don't understand the stitch names. I just make things up as I go...here is my first real finished project. I'd better go purchase some more yarn to keep my nerves steady!

Spring Fever

I miss my green trees and flower garden. Spring and fall are my favorite times of the year because both are neither too hot or too cold. So, I made another warm weather top for myself. I also got to thinking...because I work at a snails pace it is probably best to be a season ahead when it comes to sewing. This pattern has been cut out and in a baggie for 3 years. The fabric is new though and from my favorite place to shop...Denver Fabrics. This knit fabric was very delicate and when cut it rolled up and created a nice scalloped edge.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is beautiful. I admire Mexican folk art, particularly the bright colors and when I spotted this fabric panel at E-quilter I had to buy some. I gave it to my sister Noel and she literally grabbed it and ran! she fell in love with the fabric too. Noel made this wall hanging for me and she beaded the entire panel. Isn't she lovely? Now, I wish I had a large our Lady of Guadalupe belt buckle!

Ta Da! I finished Lauren's Christmas jammies tonight! This is the first time I've sewn with long john fabric. It was fun and simple. I used my serger for almost the entire project. I opted for a rolled hem vs. a sewn hem.

Blessed Christmas

2007 brings a blessed Christmas to my family. We are all healthy and happy. I was scheduled to work Christmas eve and day and the census was so low that I was able to stay home. We had a beautiful snowfall this morning...the last time it snowed in Colorado on Christmas day was 1913. Looking back I have to say the best thing about this year has been all the new friends I have made...at work, dance and fellow bloggers. Many of you pop in to make an encouraging comment even though I have been a slacker in the sewing studio. I've spent more time with Lauren than sewing (good thing here)and helping her pursue her dream of being an actress. I want you to know I have a son and husband that do get equal attention....Lauren is just not camera shy so she gets her face posted on my blog frequently. We attended mass this morning...the last mass at our church until next December as our community is so large that we are renovating. I was sad because there are so many loving memories in our church. Merry and Blessed Christmas to all of you! I look forward to all of your comments and hope that those of you who only look will pop in and say hello this next year.

I have say I have not been productive in the sewing studio...I've been thinking about sewing...does that count? I have been feeling very emotional and my life has been topsy turvy for several months. I have fought many demons and am looking forward to peace and happiness. I had a very sad day at work yesterday and it put my personal angst into perspective. We can loose our precious someone in a moment. I don't say enough on my blog about my best friend Steve...he does not tell me about all his risks at work because I'd be so anxious that I'd be in the loony bin. Friendship

I have to say the past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. Lauren and I traveled to California for a dance competition and along the way...we met with Mimi and her gorgeous family! I am amazed by her bubbling energy, sweetness and her talent. She is pretty in her blog photos but in person she is BEAUTIFUL! inside and out! I felt like I'd known her forever. Lauren instantly loved her family and children and the girls were giggling and dancing. Randy is a brilliant actor who exudes manliness, confidence and is kind and gentle at the same time. We only had a wee bit of time to spend with them which was not nearly enough for us. I could have rolled out a sleeping bag and camped in Mimi's sewing studio. Her fashion drawings are spectacular! God wanted me to meet Mimi...isn't it interesting how we meet people along life's path and they touch our lives in such a positive way. I received news while there that my Aunt was dying and my mom was on her way to Missouri to be with her only sister. Randy did something kind for my mom...(it's a secret sorry) and made her day! A couple of weeks ago I was having a rotten day and feeling very sorry for myself. I was surfing the blogs and Teresa Franco http://teresafranco.typepad.com was writing about evacuating from her home in San Diego. Well, a package arrived on my porch that day and guess who it was from? Teresa! she made me the most beautiful cozy blanket and slippers. Teresa is back home and safe thank goodness. When I opened the package I cried. I have made the most amazing and kind blogger friends! Teresa was having a bad day I'm sure while leaving her home and she was making my day at the same time. Can't you just whip up a 50's skirt for me mom? I was flattered when Lauren asked at 8:45 pm but after working a 12 hour shift all I could think about was my pj's and my crib. Her inquiry originated from the same lobe in the brain that the Money Tree and the "I need cookies for 28 kids" is located. No, I did not stay up and whip up a skirt...I can't sew at night. I did wish though that I had more costume supplies stashed in the closet. I yelped at her "what? why can't that school of yours let us know in advance?" as it turns out the school was having a fundraiser the next evening at Gunther Toody's and the children were encouraged to wear 50's clothing. Lauren had also promised to bring cookies as a treat for the class. Lauren, loving any type of costume or opportunity to be theatrical settled on a quick homemade bow, and my cat eye glasses.

OMG! my mom just called me to tell me about an article she read in the newspaper: Jack in the Box is coming back to our state! I've been so dang busy that my head is spinning. I have a ton to do today but seem to be short on energy. Our dance school is having a huge fundraiser/professional show this weekend and Lauren had to have a new costume (she's dancing with 4 former Lord of the Dance stars.) Costume...did someone saw costume? my favorite thing to sew...but I was already in over my head with feis buckets I agreed to sew for our silent auction. So I ran all over town looking for the perfect black skirt and leotard for Miss Priss. It is just so ...plain....not my style. After I enter this blog note I'm going to go wild with the heat wand, rhinestones and lace.

To add to our busy crazy life...Steve is bagpiping at the event and I'm in a team dance number and wouldn't you know it...it's the same night as Homecoming for Paul. oh! Paul was nominated for the Homecoming court! he's such a charismatic young man. He is a lot like his dad and my father. He has the gift of gab and can make anyone feel comfortable in any situation. I'm so proud of him! I hope he wins the vote...even if he does not I'm proud of how we've raised such a nice young man. Paul told me he ran out of $ the other day because he gave it to some kid that didn't have lunch money and was sitting alone. The special ed kids love Paul too. He likes almost everyone. This is also the same child who offered a girl $5.00 to eat a praying mantis and got everyone else to cough up some dough and the girl ate it for $50.00 total! yum yum oh boy is he Irish or what? Paul and I had a good laugh over his story and I told him about a neighborhood girl who would ring our doorbell and when we opened the door she would pop a live snail in her mouth...shell and all and start munching. ICK! I still recall her brown hair and freckles and green slime running out the side of her mouth.

I don't have a camera as it has gone missing but I needed to journal and found this photo of Paul back in 1994-95. I made this costume for him. It was pretty ugly yet cute at the same time. He loved this jacket...he wore it the previous Halloween and almost everyday for play. I still have it hanging in my hall closet. Steve who claims he is not artistic made the firetruck. This was when colored printers first came out and and he was hot stuff on the computer making lights and signs for the firetruck. Oh! I hope to have homecoming/dance photos to show all my blog friends on Monday.

Birthday Shopping

Today Steve and the kiddos took me shopping for my Birthday...we went to the Container Store and I picked out a grid system and magnet containers to hang above my sewing machine. Steve also bought me a new chair. Fun Fun! I've been organizing all afternoon.

I also received an I Pod Nano video so I can listen to my favorite songs while sewing. I am having so much fun in my new studio. I'm almost ready to take photos for sharing on the blogosphere.

Brave Fuzzy Riley

Riley went into the basement for the first time yesterday after the carpet was installed. He was still not sure about the scary dungeon he avoided the past 4 years. Steve put a leash on him and coaxed him down the steps. Now he is up and down all day! Fun fun!

Halloween Countdown

Paul wants to be Borat. By the way I thought this movie was very irreverent but funny. The second time I watched it was not nearly as humorous. I thought it was sad. Sacha Baron Cohen actually has a lot to say about people, cultures and society.

The Little Mermaid

No sewing to report...however I did have a meltdown this morning. It boils down to end of the summer blahs, I'm ready for the basement to be finished and the kids to be back in school. My best friend and husband Steve sat with me on the couch and listened. He asked for a co-pay of $20.00 for the 50 minutes of therapy and made me laugh. He is the bestest ever!

Tonight we are going to see The Little Mermaid. This will be fun. The young lady playing the lead is from Denver. How exciting for her to dream of being a Broadway star and open the production in her home town before it heads to New York.

Dance Class

No dancing makes Amy a dull, moody and sad lady. Dance class finally starts up today after having the summer off because the studio was being rebuilt. I'm looking forward to class and some good laughs. Our instructor is a witty Irishman with a touch of arrogance. Martin was a former lead in the Lord of the Dance production and danced Michael Flatleys lead role. He's a great instructor and dancer. My opinion is that no one can dance like Michael Flatley though. By the way if anyone likes to read autobiography's Michael's book is very inspiring. I like Michael's spirit and arrogance. I enjoy stories about determined underdogs who come out on top. Add some sadness and poverty in the saga and it's even better. My girlfriend Maureen (yes you girl big trophy winner) is trying to convince me to compete in 2 weeks but I don't know if I can get my act together after not dancing or practicing for several months. I probably can execute a few dances but don't know if I want to compete. I'd prefer to sip an Irish beer and watch the other adults compete. The Irish/Scottish Festival in September is my all time favorite outdoor event. I am more Scottish than Irish and have made lots of Clan friends over the years. I can't wait to see everyone. The Scottish Clans have tents that I visit and am always offered a dram of whiskey of some sort which I pretend to sip. shhhh!

Flashback Friday 1991

Costumes are my favorite things to create and sew. The final product does not have to be perfect. Lord knows these were not perfect. My mermaid costume is the first costume I ever made and it was by hand because my machine was giving me fits. Looking back I know what went wrong: tension, fabric and thread type and my inexperience. I learn from my mistakes. I tried it again about 6 years ago with Lauren's costume and everything went smoothly. I quilted and appliqued her seashells on the leotard with metallic gold thread. I don't know why the photos turned out so small. I have another learning curve to tackle...scanners and computers. :)

The baby shower was a success, the weather was beautiful and we visited and caught up with some of our favorite couples. I am happy it is behind me now.

Next is head shots, back to school shopping, organizing my "stuff" for the "studio" and planning our Halloween costumes. My family will be in Ireland for Halloween and I am so jealous. It is just not fair. My brother is going to run the Dublin Marathon. I don't run but I would if I was there...especially when there is Guinness at the end of the race.

I found this pattern on eBay today(shh..I was shopping while at work) I hesitated then went for the buy now button. If they catch me so be it...I had to have this pattern for Lauren's costume. I can't divulge WHAT she will be though. My blog friends will have to wait and see. Only Mimi knows who Lauren is going to be and I know she can keep a secret!

Happy Birthday to my oldest sister Sue! Sue made the cutest clothes for herself and me when we were young. I loved to watch her at the machine. Sue is an amazing woman, friend and sis. Sue acts, sings, dances, cooks, decorates, teaches calligraphy, and is a well known watercolor artist. I love you Sue!

This is a non sewing related post folks. I worked the night shift last night and it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The last time I worked a night shift I saw a ghost! Tammy and I went ghost hunting at 02:00 but found nothing! darn. Tammy is the funniest person I've ever met in my life! I think she looks like Kirstie Alley. Tammy and I are both from California and our birthdays are 6 days apart! Tammy kept me awake last night and we laughed and laughed and laughed! We are going to stay in a haunted hotel in Leadville this fall. ooooh! several other nurses want to come along...it will be like a slumber party.

Half Moon Bay California

Half Moon Bay has to be the coldest beach in California. I remember sitting on this beach shivering eating BBQ potato chips and grape Shasta soda. Dad painted the water from this beach and framed some of his oils with driftwood that we lugged home. The waves are incredible at this beach. I really want today to be over with and done.

Bonding with the Man Child

That means...no computer and no and sewing machine today. I CAN NOT sit still so I'll be hand sewing, drawing and painting my nails...in that order while watching the movies. I am exhausted from my 12 hour shift at the hospital yesterday anyway so I have an excuse to sit around. Just a thought...I had 2 patients yesterday that were aged 48 and 51 having their first babies! talk about advanced maternal age! When I'm 51 I want to be in my "studio" sewing.

How Full is Your Bucket?

I finished the buckets for Lauren and Megan (my darling niece) but only have a photo
of one. These are used at the Irish dance competitions to store their shoes, supplies and snacks. The dresses are destroyed if the dancer sits in a conventional chair so I made the buckets with a cushion to sit on to protect the dresses. This pattern made me Koo-Koo so I morphed it and did my own thing. Yes...I did rip some seams but what's new? When we were at the Irish Festival the buckets were very popular and I heard "you should sell these" oh gosh NO...then sewing becomes no fun at all.

Beauty

Loosing a parent has got to be one of the most heartbreaking experiences. Dad died three years ago this coming Friday. Dad passed through his genes many things I appreciate especially the passion for the arts. He could find the good in any situation, person or event even though times were always tough for him. He grew up poor and remained monetarily poor all his life. He was rich though in many ways. He loved us all dearly and encouraged us to persevere even in the most trying times. We never had money or fancy possessions growing up but we always managed to get to the art museums or to the beach. He taught us about famous artists,colors, and sculpture among many other things. Dad loved my husband and children so much and has touched their lives in such a wonderful way. This morning I woke early and sat in my front garden that I have ignored all summer and had a good cry. I saw the morning dew on the plants, listened to the birds and felt the breeze. It felt good to slow down my mind and body for just a short time and appreciate the little things. This flower bloomed several days ago and I saw it from the driveway often. Today it has some brown edges on the petals but is still lovely. Nothing is perfect.

Lately I'm very attracted to turquoise. I might go for a light turquoise on the walls and have red and white Toile curtains. French Country? I informed Steve I wanted a chandelier too.
